About the City Leicester

The city of Leicester has a population of over 300,000 people, large enough to make you feel part of a cosmopolitan and thriving community but retaining many of the characteristics of an historic market town with students making up over 10% of the population during term time, the city has a vibrant and youthful feel. Leicester is on the national circuit for big name bands, DJs and classical music performances. There is lively mix of world cinema, music, dance and drama at the Phoenix Arts centre.

There are a number of cinema multiplexes offering the latest films as well as Asian cinema. The city hosts a number of annual festivals reflecting its diversity. These include the Caribbean Carnival-Britain’s biggest outside London, Chinese New Year, the Dewali Festival of Light and the International Music Festival, featuring nationally acclaimed musicians and comedians, is considered to be one of the largest festivals in the UK. Whether you are a participant or a spectator, there is a plenty of sports to enjoy in Leicester, with football, rugby and cricket. The college is surrounded by many places of worship belonging to four main religions of the area i.e. Islam, Christianity, Sikhism and Hinduism. Students belonging to these religions can always fulfil their spiritual urge by visiting any of the places of worship they desire. This can also help in broadening their mental horizon by gaining information on different religions of the world.

There are many places around Highfields area worth visiting for pleasure and excursion. There are cinemas, clubs and restaurants to cater for all types of tastes. Students can pass a day in parks like Abbey Park or increase their knowledge of other planets and space technology by visiting the space museum of Leicester. They can visit arts museums or watch a play at theatres like Haymarket or De Montfort Hall. You could enjoy shopping at Shires or buy fresh fruits and vegetables at the Covered market. Normally, students like to enjoy nightlife when they are away from home. In other words, there is something for everybody to enjoy.

Recently the government has pumped in one billion pounds for Leicester regeneration, which will be used to build one of the largest and best shopping centres in the country, a science park to cater for Research & Development of cutting edge technology just to name a few. This is an exciting time for the people and students of Leicester. So if you choose to come to study at MABT then in our opinion you will be at the right place at the right time.
